What Are Meds for Fertility?
Meds for Fertility are medications that are used to either induce or suppress ovulation based on your medical and treatment needs. Meds for Fertility are also used to stimulate the production of multiple eggs for retrieval In IVF procedures.
How Do Meds for Fertility Work?
Ovulation Induction
Ovulation-inducing medications cause eggs to mature and ovulate in women who do not ovulate on their own.
Egg Production
These medicines help stimulate the growth of ovarian follicles (fluid-filled sacs where eggs grow). They are given subcutaneously (underneath the skin) usually using a very thin/short needle. Once the ovarian follicles become mature, a final trigger shot will be administered to stimulate the release of the mature egg(s).
Ovulation Suppression
Ovulation inhibitor drugs help prevent premature ovulation in gonadotropin cycles and IVF treatments, allowing more time for egg maturation.
Final Maturation Induction
These medications trigger the final egg maturation and subsequent ovulation.
Administration of Meds for Fertility
Each couple or individual undergoing fertility treatment is responsible for the administration of their own medications. Prior to the treatment, our team will help you learn how to administer your injections, whether it is you or your partner who is giving them.
The fertility video above provides instructions on how to properly give yourself a shot.
