The IVF Process with LIV Fertility
From your initial consultation to embryo transfer, our team of fertility specialists will guide you every step of the way, ensuring your experience is as smooth, comfortable, and hopeful as possible.
Step 1: Initial Consultation & Fertility Assessment
- The process begins with an in-depth consultation with a fertility specialist at LIV Fertility Center.
- Medical history, hormone levels, ovarian reserve (AMH test), and ultrasound scans are conducted to assess fertility potential.
- If male factor infertility is a concern, a semen analysis is performed.
Step 2: Ovarian Stimulation & Monitoring
- The patient starts daily hormonal injections (gonadotropins) to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs.
- Frequent ultrasounds and blood tests monitor follicle development and hormone levels.
- Adjustments to medication dosage may be made to optimize egg production.
Step 3: Trigger Shot & Egg Retrieval
- Once the follicles reach the right size, an hCG trigger shot (or another trigger medication) is administered to mature the eggs.
- 36 hours later, the eggs are retrieved through a minor surgical procedure called follicular aspiration, performed under mild sedation.
Step 4: Sperm Collection & ICSI Fertilization
- A sperm sample is collected from the partner or a sperm donor.
- ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is used—where a single healthy sperm is directly injected into each mature egg to increase fertilization success.
- The fertilized eggs (embryos) are cultured in a lab for 5-6 days, reaching the blastocyst stage.
Step 5: Embryo Selection & Genetic Testing (Optional)
- The best-quality embryos are selected for transfer.
- PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidies) may be performed to screen for chromosomal abnormalities.
Step 6: Embryo Transfer
A high-quality embryo is transferred into the uterus using a thin catheter under ultrasound guidance.
The procedure is quick and painless, requiring no anesthesia.
The remaining high-quality embryos can be frozen (cryopreservation) for future use.
Step 7: Two-Week Wait & Pregnancy Test
- The patient continues taking progesterone to support implantation.
- After 10-14 days, a blood test (beta hCG) confirms whether the embryo has implanted successfully and pregnancy has occurred.
