MODERN. The LIV Fertility Center in Puerto Vallarta specializes in reproductive endocrinology and infertility — and protecting one’s future reproductive needs. Our team of highly skilled fertility experts are skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as laparoscopy and testicular biopsy, and proficient in minimizing any damaging impact of surgery on future reproduction.
We provide patients access to modernized rehabilitations and technologies in reproductive surgery.
Female Reproductive Surgery
Endometriosis is a gynecologic condition characterized by endometrial tissue from the inner lining of the uterus growing outside of the uterine cavity. For women with endometriosis, surgery can be done to remove, or lessen, the amount of abnormal tissue in the pelvis. Fibroid tumors may be asymptomatic or may cause excessive uterine bleeding, recurrent miscarriages, pain and pressure, or severe anemia. Fibroid tumors may be removed via laparotomy or, in select cases, by outpatient hysteroscopy.
Laparoscopy is a procedure used to examine the organs of the abdominal cavity. Laparoscopy utilizes a laparoscope, a thin flexible tube containing a video camera. The laparoscope is placed through a small incision in the abdomen and produces images that can be seen on a computer screen. The advantage of the procedure allows the reproductive specialist a direct view of the abdominal and pelvic organs and structures without the need for major surgery.
Laparotomy is a procedure in which an abdominal incision is made for entrance into the abdominal and pelvic cavities. Typically, this procedure requires a longer recovery time since the incision is made through the muscles and the fascia protecting the abdominal and pelvic organs. A mini-laparotomy involves a much smaller incision allowing the patient to leave after a short observation time. This type of surgical procedure gives our fertility specialists an opportunity to deal with larger sized pelvic pathology such as uterine fibroids, extremely large ovarian cysts, or a ruptured ectopic pregnancy with uncontrolled hemorrhage.
Hysteroscopy is a procedure in which a small, telescope-like instrument is inserted directly into the uterine cavity. The scope allows the reproductive surgeon to visualize the uterine cavity and the ability to diagnose conditions including, scar tissue, uterine polyps, endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
Sclerotherapy entails the ultrasound-guided aspiration of an ovarian cyst, followed by the insertion of a sclerosing agent — which chemically destroys the cyst lining so as to prevent the re-growth of the cyst. It is performed in a manner similar to an egg retrieval procedure in IVF (In Vitro Fertilization).
Male Reproductive Surgery
Testicular biopsy is a procedure in which several small pieces of testicular tissue are removed and examined for sperm, further used in fertility procedures.
Vasectomy reversal is performed as an outpatient procedure and is achieved to reverse a previous vasectomy and restore the male’s ability to release sperm into his semen from the testicles.
Recent development of aggressive new surgical sperm extraction techniques including TESE, TESA, MESA, and PESA.
