How Do I Become an Egg Donor?

As one of the premier egg donor programs in the world, LIV Fertility Center provides the most optimal conditions for both egg donors and intended parents. The following are basic criteria for becoming an egg donor:

  • Age must be between 21 and 34.
  • Must meet appropriate health requirements.
  • Proportionate weight and height.
  • Must possess negative history of psychiatric illness.
  • Must possess negative history of genetically transmittable diseases, cancer, substance abuse, chronic medical condition, prior chemotherapy or radiation therapy, or any unusual anesthesia risks.
  • Must be willing to utilize barrier contraception (or abstain from intercourse) for two menstrual cycles.

Egg Donation Overview

STEP 1 | Initial Evaluation

We strictly uphold the confidentiality of our anonymous donors; donors must complete an in-depth personal evaluation, including personal, obstetrical, medical and surgical history. Upon your acceptance to our program, recipient couples are able to search our database based on what their particular needs are for a donor.

STEP 2 | Medical Screening

  • Ultrasound and blood work
  • Medical and psychological review
  • Blood test for HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and drug screening

STEP 3 | Synchronization and Stimulation

Egg donation requires the synchronization of the hormonal cycles of the recipient and the donor. The first phase involves a medication generally taken for about 12 days, by self-injection, once a day. The second phase is called the stimulation phase. This stimulation medication is also given once a day via injection for about 12 days. Toward the end of the 12-day timeframe, when your hormones have reached the appropriate level, the doctor will instruct you to take your final injection, called the ‘trigger’ shot — which completes the uterine preparation for implantation and is timed to the retrieval of the donor’s eggs for maximum recipient receptivity.

STEP 4 | Egg Retrieval Process

Retrieving the mature eggs from your ovaries is made more comfortable with the care of a certified anesthesiologist who administers an intravenous anesthetic. You are closely monitored by both your physician and anesthesiologist throughout the procedure.
